Andy Warhole ten identical faces printed in black, in two rows, on a large canvas 5.65 meters wide and 2 meters high. Are these faces identical? Not exactly... Andy Warhol created this picture in 1963, based on a photograph of movie star Elizabeth Taylor, which he repeated ten times by means of silk-screening. Is an image like this, which seems to break with tradition portraiture, as easy to decipher as a classical painting?
